 NDVI is useful for evaluating overall crop vigor, especially earlier in the season, while NDRE can reveal subtler chlorophyll differences after the corn canopy becomes dense. Neither is universally better; comparing both provides a more complete understanding of field variability. 

Drone imagery can identify unusual vegetation patterns and areas showing possible stress, but it cannot independently diagnose a specific disease, pest, nutrient deficiency, or irrigation problem. Suspected areas should be inspected on the ground and confirmed through appropriate testing. 

The ideal scanning schedule depends on crop stage, field conditions, and management goals. Baseline and follow-up flights at important growth stages—or after severe weather, irrigation problems, or other significant events—can help determine whether stressed areas are improving or declining. To start, the recommended action is to scout every 7-14 days during the season.

 Drone imaging provides a course-wide view of vegetation variability that can reveal developing stress patterns and inconsistent irrigation response that may be difficult to recognize from the ground. These maps help superintendents prioritize inspections, labor, and maintenance resources.
